Ever wondered how to prevent two words from separating across a line? (e.g. a title and a surname or a dosage and its unit of measure). In MS Word, use a non-breaking space between the two words so that they are treated as a single word yet still have a space between them for readability. The shortcut key for a non-breaking space is CTL+Shift+Spacebar. Type this key INSTEAD of the spacebar alone, and it will insert what looks like a degree symbol (only when formatting marks are showing). This will treat the text on either side of the non-breaking space as if it were a single word and will not allow it to split across lines. What usually confuses people when they first try this is they insert a space AND a non-breaking space. The trick is to only type a non-breaking space. Word also has a shortcut key for a non-breaking hyphen which is CTRL+Shift+Hyphen. MTWerks has a brand new web site! Click on over and check it out! |
